Area Rug Information Archives

When I think of kitchen area rugs ,I think of braided rugs.To me that kind of rug really typifies a kitchen rug.The mix of colors and materials can really help to accentuate the decor of any kitchen.

The durability of a braided rug is a wise choice for a kitchen. They are easily cleaned when the inevitable spill occurs. Also on the plus side is the fact that they can be turned over for more life.A carpet or rug that is sewn or weaved to a backing material may not be able to be turned over, shortening the amount of service that you can get out of the rug.

While the typical rug is in an oval configuration, you may be surprised to find that they also come in round, half round and rectangular shapes as well.

KitchenRugs.com has a tremendous selection of rugs to choose from on their website. To say that I was impressed is an understatement. These are some of my favorites.

The Deerfield Hunter Green rug. This rug is made out of a Naturalized polypropylene material that is stain resistant, making it great for indoor and outdoor use.The deep rich coloring of this rug is certainly eye catching. It also comes in Onyx,Midnight Blue,Seal Brown,Deep Russet and Taupe.

The In The Valley Rouge Oval, uses 18th century coloring to create warm shades to brighten up your rooms.Hand woven from three ply wool yarn, this braided rug is built for durability and wear resistance.

The Bob Timberlake Bear Creek coloring is what I imagine most Colonial era braided rugs would have looked like.Made from a blend of wool and nylon these rugs will make a fine addition to your home.

If oval is not your cup of tea or perhaps rectangular would work better in your kitchen you might want to look at The Venetian Glass rectangular rug by Out Durable.Made from Du Pont Olefin fibers this one will take the wear and tear of daily life. This rug would be great for your kitchen but you could use it on your porch, patio, pet areas, even the bathroom!

Or perhaps the Monterrey is more your taste. The blues and greens mixed with taupe and sand are an excellent blend of colors.

But I would have to say that my favorite would have to be the Wedgewood. The blend and range of blues is tremendous. It just shouts luxury!

All rugs require regular maintenance in the form of vacuuming to keep their beauty and durability.Use the hand attachment to vacuum these rugs.It is important to clean up spills as quickly as possible. For deep cleaning, have your rug professionally cleaned.

Even though braided rugs leave the factory flat, they can sometimes get rolled or curled.Lay them out and let them flatten out fully before use.Try to work any wrinkles out with your hands. To help give your rug more life, install a rug pad underneath it.

It is inevitable that you will have loose threads pop up from time to time.Just use a scissors to trim the threads close to the rug.Since a braided rug is sewn together, sometimes those are the threads that come loose. You may find it necessary to use a heavy thread and needle to resecure the braids. This is something that you may consider having a professional do for you.

If you are in the market for a rug for your kitchen, den, living room, patio or porch, then head over to Kitchen Rugs.com.They have an amazing collection to choose from.

If you are looking for Country Kitchen area rugs,I have a few suggestions I would like to make.KitchenRugs.com has quite a nice selection of carpets in a variety of sizes to fit most kitchens and dining areas.

A lot of people seem to like Roosters or Apples and sometimes both, for decorating their kitchens. While searching KitchenRugs.com I came across the following rugs.

The Avalon AN616 Black Rug. With roosters and apples this kitchen area rug is the best of both worlds. It comes in 5 sizes from a 2×7 runner up to an 8×10 rug. This rug is machine woven from 100% polypropylene which should provide long life and washability. It rated a 4.3 out of a possible five in reviews by customers.

The Chelsea Country Rug is made from pure virgin wool that is hand hooked to a durable cotton backing. The combination of pleasing aesthetics and the durability of wool makes this rug hard to pass by.It is available in 6 rectangular sizes,3 round sizes and 4 runner sizes which should make it easy to find a size to fit most any room.

For something a bit different you may want to investigate the Vintage Poster Art Rug by Chelsea. This hand hooked rug made of pure wool is designed to be reminicient of posters that were once seen throughout Europe. As with most everything from Kitchen Rugs.com this rug comes in a variety of sizes.

Next on our list is the Avalon Red Rug.Again machine woven out of 100% polypropylene  and with a combination rooster apple motiff, the Avalon Red Rug also features a red checker board pattern around the edge.

One of my favorites from KitchenRugs has to be the Avalon Fern Apples rug.The combination of the green and white checker board pattern around the edges, the green background in the center and the red of the apples seem to me to typify a country kitchen area rug.

A close second for me would be the Avalon Medium Blue Apple rug.The only reason I would choose the Fern Apple is because I am more partial to green but otherwise either is quite attractive and should provide many years of service life if taken care of properly.

Coming in third in my personal opinion poll would be the Avalon Ivory rug.Similar in design, material and manufacture to the previous two rugs. While just as beautiful and well made as the others red is just not my color.

But which ever you choose,I don’t believe you can go wrong shopping online at KitchenRug.com.Along with area rugs they also have accent, novelty and braided rugs as well as rug pads in stock and ready for shipping.

As much as you would like to never have to step on or get your rug dirty, that is not likely to happen.Especially in a kitchen environment.Spills are a fact of life and so is cleaning your kitchen area rug. When done regularly cleaning will extend the useful life span of your rug allowing you to enjoy it for many years.

What do I mean by regular cleaning? To start with, regular weekly vacuuming. Both sides.I would suggest that you use either the attachment for hard floors or the one for furniture. That way you are less likely to catch a thread or frayed area and start to unravel your rug.

Regular vacuuming has the added benefit of helping keep down dust build up which some people are allergic to.

If like most people you, walk on the rug with dirty shoes or have kids and pets, brushing the rug before vacuuming will help considerably with removing ground in dirt.If the dirt happens to be mud, obviously let it dry thoroughly before brushing and vacuuming.

Of course in a kitchen setting there will be spills and learning some tips to combat that eventuality is a necessity.

The first thing to do in the event of a spill is to blot the area with a white towel or cloth.Obviously this is so that the dye in the towel won’t run and make a worse problem for you.Try using a spray bottle with plain water to help loosen the spill before blotting.Rubbing at the spill may only make things worse so I wouldn’t recommend it.Work from the outside of the spill into the center.

For most spills that would occur in a kitchen, like  beer, coffee, catsup and mustard,a mixture of a neutral detergent and white vinegar(a teaspoon of each)in a quart of warm water should do.

Drying the wet spot on the rug is equally important. You don’t want to leave the rug damp as that could cause mold and lead to rot.If the area rug is not large you may want to take it outside and lay it out to dry over some plastic chairs or anything that won’t stain the rug further. If it is too large you might want to try using a hairdryer on a low setting or a portable fan to circulate air around the wet spot.Try not to step on the spot until it is completely dry.

A bit of effort at keeping spills from happening in the first place is the best course of action. But we all know that is not always possible .
The final thought is to have your area rug professionally cleaned every two to three years.

You’ve decided to purchase an area rug for your kitchen.Great.Now what?Where do you start to look for one?

You could go to your local carpeting store or home center. And while they will have a nice selection it doesn’t mean that they will have just the right one for your kitchen. You want one that will match your decor.Just the right combination of color, design and style.

Shopping online for your kitchen area rug can open up many possibilities. There are loads of online stores that have huge selections of what you are looking for. Most have better choices than local stores when it comes to different types.

Shopping on line also has the benefit of being able to see rugs in an actual setting. Most websites have pictures of the actual rugs on kitchen floors so that you can really get an idea of what it might look like on your floor.Home centers and carpeting stores usually have them in a pile or rolled up so it kind of makes it hard to get a feel for it.No more flipping and digging through piles to find something that you like.

Another benefit to buying online is that many stores have information about how the kitchen area rugs are made, the type of materials used, cleaning instructions and even where they come from. That kind of information could be very valuable in choosing the right one for your kitchen.

Now in all fairness, home centers and carpeting stores do have one advantage and that is the fact that you can take the rug home with you the day you buy it.Or at least have it delivered.Despite that I think going online is still better.Your choices are greater, you save enormous time and gas over going from store to store. You can shop online 24 hours a day and probably the best benefit of all is no pushy salesmen.

So take my advice and when it is time to buy a kitchen area rug do so online the benefits will out weigh the disadvantages.
